Trattoria Positano is a family run authentic Italian restaurant located in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California. Since 1997, we have specialized in Italian cuisine from the region of Positano. Our passion is to create delicious meals using locally sourced fresh market ingredients.
Our roots are from the Amalfi Coast and therefore, many of our specialties focus on dishes from the sea including favorites such as our Guazzetto ai Frutti di Mare appetizer with clams, mussels, shrimp, calamari, garlic in a garlic white wine broth, Ravioli d’Aragosta featuring homemade ravioli filled with Maine lobster meat in a lobster rosemary reduction with cream and our Branzino con Polenta, a braised sea bass in white wine with fresh thyme, lemon, onions, fresh tomato wedges and grilled polenta.
If meat is more your style, we have Carpaccio alla Cipriani on the appetizer menu, thinly sliced beef tenderloin topped with arugula, shaved Parmesan cheese, with capers in olive oil and lemon. Our Pollo alla Griglia Marinato is a house favorite; grilled marinated de-boned half chicken with double blanched garlic sauce served with roasted potatoes and vegetable.
Our Homemade Ravioli is not just for those who love lobster, we also feature stuffed raviolis with veal or cheese that melts in your mouth.

We LOVED this place. My fish was EXCELLENT and my husband loved his pasta dish. The bruschetta was super yummy and fresh. The staff was very friendly and patient when we were having a hard time deciding what to order. Taking friends this Saturday and hope they enjoy it as much as we did. Thank you for the delicious meal and great service.
My wonderful wife took me here for a birthday dinner. We were first attracted by the ocean view. Looking at the menu confirmed this was the place. Everything was delicious with a number of unique flavors. I ordered the lobster ravioli. She had the eggplant parmigiana. Both were outstanding. The desert tray left us almost speechless. All were made in house. We had the meringue with fruit topping. Heavenly! A number of dinners introduced themselves, said they were regulars and wanted to know what we ordered and our reactions. Overall great food, welcoming help and friendly patrons. We will be back!
We enjoyed our pastas. The cannoli were delicious. The owners were friendly yet efficient. Our food arrived very quickly. (We had an early spontaneous dinner.) My favorite though was the garlic marinara with herb bread to start.
Operated by 3 Italian sisters, this place makes you think you are eating in Italy. Love the food, love the service!
If you like REAL ITALIAN FOOD….YOU NEED TO GO SPEND SOME TIME WITH THESE THREE SISTER’S…. the family for fun goes to the home land and cooks at the other family owned restaurant south of Amalfi Coast every year…for a vacation..that’s how good this food is!
One word – Quality! Amazing authentic Italian dishes prepared with fresh ingredients, served in a warm and cozy ambiance. Every single dish we tried was delicious, including the home made sauces, olive oil, and the freshly baked bread. And, definitely don’t skip the dessert!
